Construction Foreman / Lead Carpenter

This is a “working lead” position based out of Dorr, MI, focusing on the commercial building sector. You will be responsible for managing projects to success—ensuring they are completed on time and meet our high standards for quality. Whether working independently or leading a small crew of 1–2 members, you will be the point person for on-site execution, from light demolition to high-end finish carpentry and door hardware.

The Role
This is a “working lead” position based out of Dorr, MI, focusing on the commercial building sector. You will be responsible for managing projects to success—ensuring they are completed on time and meet our high standards for quality. Whether working independently or leading a small crew of 1–2 members, you will be the point person for on-site execution, from light demolition to high-end finish carpentry and door hardware.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead through Values: Empower and lead team members through the Mugen mission and vision, practicing extreme ownership over project outcomes.
- Carpentry Excellence: Execute both rough and finish carpentry, door & door hardware installation, and casework installation with a focus on quality.
- General Trades: Perform a wide range of general‑trade tasks including light framing, drywall patching, backing/blocking, minor concrete work, hardware adjustments, and punch‑list repairs.
- Efficiency: Self-motivate to keep projects moving forward, ensuring we meet “on-time” delivery goals for our clients.
Project Oversight
- Read and interpret blueprints accurately to ensure projects are built to spec.
- Verify layout, measurements, and tolerances before critical work begins to ensure accuracy and avoid rework.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area that reflects Mugen’s standards.
- Coordinate with subcontractors on sequencing, access, and readiness so work progresses without downtime.
Light Administrative & Reporting Duties
- Provide daily updates to the Project Manager on progress, issues, and upcoming needs.
- Track material usage and report shortages or discrepancies.
- Document field changes or unexpected conditions with photos and notes to support accurate communication and potential change orders.
Safety & Quality Control
- Enforce jobsite safety practices and correct unsafe behavior immediately.
- Conduct informal quality checks throughout the day to ensure work meets Mugen’s standards before moving on to the next task.
- Protect finished work from damage caused by weather, trades, or poor sequencing.
Qualifications
- Experience: 5+ years of professional carpentry experience (Preferred).
- Technical Skills: Expert ability to read blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead and mentor others while maintaining a detail-oriented focus.
- Alignment: A deep resonance with the Mugen mission of building people and serving the community.
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay: $25.00 – $35.00 per hour (based on experience). Year-end bonuses are based on project profitability.
- Health Insurance: 100% employer-paid premiums.

- Schedule: Paid weekly; includes Paid Time Off (PTO) and Sick Time.
- Work Truck: A company provided work truck to travel from the shop to the job sites.
- Work Tool: Mugen will provide the necessary tools required to complete the job.
